Editorial of the Week

After reading this New York Times editorial by Bob Herbert (Saturday, August 28, 2010) on bottom feeder, Glen Beck, I knew I had to post a link. It's a must read, here's a taste:

America is better than Glenn Beck. For all of his celebrity, Mr. Beck is an ignorant, divisive, pathetic figure. On the anniversary of the great 1963 March on Washington he will stand in the shadows of giants — Abraham Lincoln and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Who do you think is more representative of this nation?
Consider a brief sampling of their rhetoric.

Lincoln: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
King: “Never succumb to the temptation of becoming bitter.”
Beck: “I think the president is a racist.”

Kenya Report: New Constitution

This past week, the eastern African country, Kenya has ratified and signed a new constitution. The truly historic document, that decentralizes power from the president to local community governments, will serve as a check and balance against tyrannical corruption.

This new document, hailed as the most significant political event since Kenya’s independence nearly a half-century ago: (as reported by the AP)

...is part of a reform package that President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga committed themselves to after signing a power-sharing deal in February 2008. That deal ended violence that killed more than 1,000 people after Kenya’s disputed December 2007 presidential vote. (AP)

Thousands and thousands of Kenyans and VIP international guests celebrated in Kenyan capital, Nairobi's Uhuru Park.

With this development, Kenya, already one of the world's fastest growing economies, will only attract more international investment because of less corruption and better governance. Additionally, this will serve as a template for other African nations.
